The perception of the US war is at an all time low...and yet still getting lower...
the latest cause of that is the sexually graphic pictures taken from the Abu Ghraib Prison of Iraqis in sexual or torture poses...now, granted, I can say this for all Americans, our leadership does not want our soldiers to be like that, and those are the few bad apples and should be rightly punished...
but the arab street doesn't see it that way...they see us acting like Saddam Hussein acted...and what is worse is that we are westerners, which makes it all the more embarassing to them...
I can't even imagine how to fix the situation, it is so out of control...I'm not sure if at this point there is much of a solution...
Remember the Powell doctrine...what exactly is the exit strategy?
And speaking of Iraq, tonight on Nightline, Ted Koppel read off the names and showed the pictures of all the servicemen who died in Iraq...I cried...yes, they are soldiers, but they are also people...my age...if so many are going to die, I want to have a definite reason for them to die...i.e. "if they hadn't gone into Iraq..."...but I cant say that...this has hurt the war on terrorism, increased hatred on the arab street...yes, Saddam Hussein is gone, and he was evil...but what now...now we are seen as Saddam, but even worse...
Feeling sad tonight about all this...
Understanding Politics - Discussing Political Issues
I became involved in politics only a few years ago. The details of politics, I find absolutely facinating, and as I learn more about politics, I want to ramble about it on here. I was a registered Republican who changed to Independent in 2000. Ordinarily, I would be considered a centrist, however, lately, I seem to be considered liberal, not because my views have changed, but because the country has changed.
